With this record, A Tribe Called Quest helped to solidify the link between jazz and hip hop. The album was originally released in 1991 helped shape the genre throughout the 90s. It was named by Pitchfork as #56 in its Top 100 Favorite Records of the 90s and #9 on comedian Chris Rock's Top 25 Hip Hop Albums.
