For over 20 years, A Tribe Called Quest has soundtracked the lives of millions of seekers of an alternative to the sounds and themes of mainstream hip-hop. Determined to put aside differences in the face of turbulent times, Tribe began recording We Got It From Here... immediately after the Paris terror attacks in 2015. It would also be the group's first studio record in almost 18 years. The rule of three came to pass months later when they lost MC Phife Dog to diabetes, by then midway through the recording process. The honoring of one of Tribe's founding members is intrinsic to We Got It From Here..., which includes guest spots from Kendrick Lamar, Jack White, Andre 3000, and Talib Kweli.
