Miles Davis
Miles Davis was born in 1926 in Alton, IL. He was given his first trumpet at age 13 and was asked to play with passing bands on a regular basis. Davis' incredible technique and idiosyncratic style were immediately recognized, earning him a spot at Julliard to continue his training. His interest in jazz, however, lead to an early departure from what was then a classically-minded institution. He moved on, playing all over the world and spurring the jazz revolution on its way. While he struggled with addiction in his personal life, Davis' professional career was and continues to be globally-admired.
