Omega was founded in 1903 as a spinoff brand to an even older watch company in Switzerland: La Generale Watch Co, which was founded in 1848 and revolutionized the watchmaking world by first manufacturing watches with interchangeable components. Omega grew into its own internationally-renowned brand, being selected as the official watch for Britain's Royal Flying Corps in 1917, the American infantry in 1918, and the Apollo 11 astronauts in 1969.
