In 1975 in Hudson, Massachussetts, a man named Harvey Gross decided that American outerwear deserved better. He acquired an old textile mill in the town, and turned it into a factory - in fact, he turned it into one of the few factories in the world capable of manufacturing insulated down apparel.

And thus, Penfield was born.
