In 2001, founder Tom Mallinger bought an antique coin press and began making collectible, good-luck coins by hand-engraving steel dies and pressing them one at a time. The coins he made as a weekend hobby caught the attention of author George R.R. Martin for the Game of Thrones series — which helped propel the operation into a full-fledged, successful family business.
