You only really need three kitchen knives — a standard chef's blade, a serrated knife, and a proper paring knife. This minimal set by Material Kitchen includes their take on all of the above: a balanced 8" chef's blade for most daily cutting tasks, a 6" serrated blade for slicing bread and ripe fruit, and an almost 4" paring knife for detail work that requires some finesse. With a three-layer, Japanese steel construction, a perfect sense of balance, and grippy composite handles, there's little these blades can't handle. You'll probably use all three every day for the foreseeable future.
