Located in the beautiful state of Maine, Acadia National is the oldest National Park east of the Mississippi River. Originally named Lafayette National Park, it was renamed in 1929 and, sadly, suffered one of the worst forest fires in US history after a monthlong wildfire burned almost 10,000 acres. But thankfully, the park has naturally regrown to its former glory, with some increased biodiversity to boot.
