Ulysses
Stately, plump Buck Mulligan.
It is entirely too presumptuous of us to try and pay accurate tribute to Ulysses, considered by many to be the greatest 20th century novel written in English. Structurally, it’s the Odyssey. Plot-wise, it tracks the journey of a select few traversing and conversing in Dublin, Ireland over the course of a single day. It is not a book to read, but re-read, and like any great piece of art its rewards outweigh its demands, which, admittedly, are hefty. Read, reflect, re-read, ad infinitum.
