How to French Press Tea

Learn the ins and outs of the best way to brew tea.

Brewing up a top notch cup of French pressed tea is simple, but there are some tricks to getting the most out of your blend.

  • Bring water to a boil. If you want, pour the still boiling water into the French press and mug to pre-heat them while you wait for the rest of the water to cool to the ideal temperature (see chart below).
  • Add 1.5 tsp of loose leaf tea per 8 ounces of water into the French press. If you'd like, you can throw additional flavors like ginger or nutmeg into the tea to spice things up.
  • Pour the water over the tea and let it steep. The amount of time you let it steep depends on the tea you are making (did we mention there is a chart below?).
  • Plunge delicately and pour yourself a cup. If you've made more than you are planning to drink immediately, pour all the tea into a secondary vessel to prevent over-steeping.
