The Two Most Important Grooming Tricks to Keep You Looking Young(ish)

With some sunscreen and the right pair of shades, you'll shield your face from wrinkle-inducing UV rays.

Ask any skincare pro and they’ll tell you that the best thing you can do for your skin is protect if from the sun. That means you should be taking full advantage of two things: sunglasses and sunscreen. Wrinkle-reducing moisturizers and the like are all well and good, but it's better to be proactive and keep the wrinkles from developing in the first place.

Sunscreen

Sure, it's a no-brainer at the beach. But you should also be using it daily on your face to keep the wrinkles away year round -- the winter sunshine can wreck your mug, too.

It sounds annoying, but it’s not: lots of brands make moisturizers with sunscreen mixed in. Stick to those to avoid adding any extra steps, or layer one on after the other. Either way, make sure you do it to steel yourself with daily sun protection that'll ward off wrinkles. It's an incredibly easy one step process after your morning shower, and will pay huge dividends in the future.

Pro tip : look for the ones that say “broad spectrum,” which means they block both UVA and UVB rays.

Sunglasses

They aren't just for looking great and keeping the sun out of your eyes while you kick back. Since any pair worth the price tag is polarized, they'll also shield your skin from UV rays , which is a huge anti-aging benefit.

While sunscreen is good enough for your face, keeping the area under your eyes well-protected is especially important since the skin is much thinner and more sensitive. You don't want to layer on your regular sunscreen there, since the skin is too delicate, though there are under-eye creams out there that'll make the area look brighter and tighter while also packing some SPF. Just be sure to apply it gently -- it feels dumb at first, but dabbing the stuff in softly keeps you from bruising or prematurely wrinkling the area.

That'll help, but for an easier fix, or to give yourself multiple lines of defense, slide on a pair of sunglasses whenever you go outside in bright sun. Polarized lenses keep UV rays from hitting your skin, which means your under eyes won't get bombarded by wrinkle-producing light. If you're diligent about it, the added protection will keep you looking young and wide awake, as opposed to the wrinkles and bags that can happen as you age without sun protection.

Invest in both, and get in the habit of wearing 'em anytime you go outside in sunny weather. You'll keep the wrinkles at bay, at least partially, and will have a much healthier face in the long run.
