Makes the best cup of drip coffee I’ve ever had. Simple, easy to use, and fantastic coffee!
SCA (Specialty Coffee Association) certification means the KBGV has been independently tested and verified to meet the precise brewing standards used to evaluate specialty coffee — specifically water temperature between 196°F and 205°F and a brew cycle that extracts properly. Most home drip makers fall short of this standard. The KBGV hits it consistently, every brew.
The V stands for variable flow rate — the KBGV automatically adjusts water flow based on whether you're brewing a full or half carafe, optimizing saturation and extraction for either quantity. Brewing speed and hotplate temperature also adjust automatically. This is what separates it from standard Moccamaster models.
A full 40 oz (10-cup) carafe brews in 4-6 minutes. The copper boiling element rapidly heats water to 196-205°F and pulses it over the grounds in a manual pour-over style for full flavor extraction.
For serious coffee drinkers, yes. Moccamaster states this should be the last coffee brewer you ever need to buy — replacement parts are available for all models and on-site service technicians will repair any Moccamaster for the life of the brewer. The 5-year warranty and Dutch handmade construction back this up.
A medium-coarse grind (like coarse sand or sea salt) is recommended — pre-ground bagged coffee tends to be too fine. Use bleached (white) paper filters; brown unbleached filters can leave a cardboard taste. Descale every 100 cycles or at least every three months.
