Created from a flat piece of paper, the Hawaii Islands from 1971 are transformed by Muir Way into a 3D raised relief map in their San Diego workshop. To create this unique piece, historical documents are scanned and combined with modern elevation data to align the raised terrain to a detailed mold. Then each map gets printed, heated, and vacuum-formed to the mold for a colorful piece of decor that allows you to visually and tactilely explore the Aloha State’s diverse terrain from the Big Island to Kauai and everything in between, including underwater topography.
