I want to be fair here and provide a disclaimer that I work in coffee for a specialty roaster who only works with Arabica beans, and thus my opinion comes from that perspective. I think it's fair to call this a medium-dark roast, but that doesn't really provide the end-user with much information in this case (my opinion). We cupped this coffee alongside our weekly production cupping, and the bitterness of the Robusta is just hard to get around. I bought this coffee because we're interested in incorporating some Robusta into our coffee program and wanted to try a blend like this. This coffee is good for people that like to add some milk/milk alternative to their coffee to cut the bitterness a bit, and for those who enjoy a bit more caffeine per cup than a typical Arabica coffee. People who typically drink medium/medium-light coffee and drink their coffee black to taste the character of the coffee itself will likely find this hard to drink. That said, I appreciate the family connection/connection to Vietnam and the push to include Robusta into their coffee. The industry will soon have little choice but to do the same given the effects of climate change, so good on you Nam. Cheers!
