American Oak Barrel
There’s a reason whiskey tastes so damn good: it’s spent a chunk of its life aging in immense wooden casks, allowing flavors to grow and harmonize over time. This one-liter version brings that process home, maturing moonshine – a.k.a. white whiskey – into a blend akin to bourbon. No matter what boozy elixir you fill it with, though, the cask’s charred interior will impart it with notes of smoke and oak distinct to your particular barrel. Each is handcrafted using American Oak reclaimed from barrels that once housed whiskeys you’ll find in any liquor store, and bound with steel bands to prevent leakage. They also each come with a storage tablet, which you should use to keep the wood fresh between batches; if you decide to switch liquors, though, you're going to need to invest in Thousand Oaks’ stronger cleaners.

To start aging, start by curing your barrel with hot water for three-to-five days to seal up any cracks. Once that's done, simply fill up the tank using the funnel, seal it with the bung, and let your soon-to-be batch sit while your base liquor loads up on flavor, checking back every few days to taste. You can expect those signature notes to develop within two or three weeks, but feel free to ride the process out for as long as you'd like; your booze will only get better with time. (Don't wait too long though, otherwise evaporation may get the best of it.) When it’s done, use the spigot to pour yourself a glass straight out of the barrel. How’s that for convenience?
